Cascading Climate and Health Risks in African Cities
CASCADE aims to enhance resilience of African cities in the context of climate change and health through transdiciplinary work, which supports collaboration across many different academic and non-academic actors.
What We Do
Our African-led team aims to use local insights to tackle urban health and climate change issues in Africa.
At CASCADE, we tackle urgent urban health challenges using a comprehensive systems approach, bridging the gap between science and decision-making in African cities through deep, cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Toward a more resilient future
We are committed to enhancing Africa’s scientific excellence, developing research skills, fostering knowledge and connectivity, and promoting science leadership using a transdisciplinary approach, driven from the bottom up. As a multi-partner, multi-million dollar, four-year consortium, funded through the second phase of the Developing Excellence in Leadership, Training and Science Africa programme, we’re eager to bring about tangible, meaningful change. Prof Stephen OkoboiMakerere University"Having a multi-disciplinary team anchored in South- South collaboration coming together to generate evidence on CASCADE was a key highlight from the inception meeting. What excites me is that CASCADE will train the next generation of climate change scientists, who are very limited on the African continent."
Dr Chris JackClimate System Analysis Group, University of Cape Town"The CASCADE consortium is a testament to our commitment to deepening our understanding of climate and health in Africa and providing the evidence required to urgently implement effective interventions.
